Ditching Facebook

With all the bullshit, fake news, hate and misinformation flooding Facebook in recent years, I’ve increasingly shied away from my Facebook feed. Unfortunately, being so pervasive, I found myself continually forced back onto the platform for various reasons —

  • coordinating with fellow uni students for group assignments (no more of that for me!);
  • keeping up contact with particular family and friend groups (which isn’t truly “keeping up contact” if we’re completely honest with ourselves); and
  • helping generate some interest in my various charity endeavours over the years (which I’m fairly certain I can do without).

I will miss the Groups I’m a part of, but couldn’t really justify remaining on Facebook any longer just for Groups. So, I pulled the plug, downloaded my profile/photos/etc, and turned off the profile. It’s been hard to stay away but I’m both succeeding in doing so thus far as well as benefitting from having cut the cord. No more misery and despair at Halal posts, COVIDiots, etc.

Just sweet, blissful, Facebook-less silence…
